Course description

Who is the programme for ?Candidates who want to work in a coaching environment, or have experience of coaching and have a passion for coaching football at grass roots level.What is the programme structure ?The course is made of a level 3 certificate in sport, combined with a coaching/leadership qualifications. What does the programme include ?Analysing sport in the communityPlanning coaching sessionsCoach sessions to enable participants to achieve sessional goalsEstablish and maintain relationships which support the coaching processDeal with accidents and emergenciesContribute to the development of teams and individualsPromote the adoption and maintenance of regular physical activityApply basic principles of nutrition to enhance performancePlan, manage and evaluate a basic physical conditioning programmeManaging a football teamPlaying football (technique and tactics)Coaching football to children (with experience)Are there any special facilities for the programme?Astro-turf, Fitness Suite and Sports hallWhat award will I achieve ?- Level 3 Certificate in Increasing participation in Sport in community settings- Level 2 Leadership through football- Level 1 FA coaching (if not already gained)

Entry requirements

A Level 2 Sports qualification, Level 2 English and maths or grade C/D GCSE profile at Level 2, Aged 17+, Level 1 FA Coach (preferred).

Assessment

The programme will be delivered via a range of practical activities on the Astro-turf and theory based lectures in classrooms.Regular assessments in the workplace or simulated setting.

Financial information

Will there be any extra costs involved?Uniform/ training kit approximately £70.Students will be expected to provide their own footwear and clothing for practical sessions.Selection on the course football team is subject to a trial.Any student experiencing financial difficulty can apply to the Learner Support Fund.

Future opportunities

Students who complete this course can progress onto Foundation Degree, gain employment as a Coach or in a sports development setting.
