European Computer Driving License (ECDL Essential) Level 1 at City College
TheThe European Driving Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) is the internationally recognized qualification which enables people to demonstrate their competence in computer skills. ECDL has been designed to recognize individuals’ practical skills in using information technology in carrying out straightforward tasks in a range of contexts. This is a hands-on course, which teaches individuals of any age, how to use a computer through practical and realistic tasks. Learners have the chance to develop their knowledge and understanding of IT, for application at home or at work.
The NEW ECDL Syllabus 5, contains three mandatory units, totalling 9 credits of learning
- Using E-mail/Using the Internet (5 credits)
- IT Security for Users (1 credit)
- IT User Fundamentals (3 credits)
This qualification has been designed to be accessible to learners who are entirely new to using ICT, therefore no prior experience or knowledge of computers is required; however, in order to achieve successfully you should commit to regular attendance. You must be aged 19 or over on 1st September of the academic year in which you enrol. This course is not suitable for ESOL learners at Entry Level or below.
All the above units must be achieved in order to achieve the ECDL Essentials certificate. Competency in each of the modules is tested via on-line assessment under exam conditions. Centre assessment may be undertaken at any point during the course.
Fees for those not in receipts of means tested benefits are: £150. This is inclusive of tuition, registration, **practice assessment, **live assessment, and certification. Stage payments can be made on request. Over 60’s will be given a 50% reduction in fees. **price includes 1 practice assessment and 1 live assessment per unit. Re-sits or further practice assessments will attract additional charges.
ECDL Level 2 Certificate in IT User Skills (ITQ) (ECDL Extra)
Additional Learning Support may be available to assist learners in achieving their learning goals. If you are aged between 16 – 19, you may be eligible for “Education Maintenance Allowance” (EMA), where a weekly allowance is paid to support you whilst you learn. If you are over 19 and on certain full-time Level 2 or 3 courses, you may be eligible for an “Adult Learning Grant” (ALG) where a similar allowance is paid. Ask reception for information at the time you enrol.
