Course description

Psychology is the scientific study of what we do, think and feel. Studying Psychology will give you the opportunity to reflect on why you and others behave the way you do, through evaluating psychological research studies. There will be a range of diverse and interesting areas covered over the two years, such as crime, phobias, obedience and relationships. A Level Psychology is an academic subject involving a high level of analysis and essay writing skills.

Entry requirements

You do not need to have studied psychology at GCSE level for entry onto the A Level course, which is assessed entirely through examinations. The course involves writing regular highly analytical essays, participating in group tasks and discussions, conducting psychological investigations and analysing them using statistics. A mature approach to the complex subject matter is equally important. The minimum entry requirements are C grades at GCSE in English, Maths and a Science.

Future opportunities

Psychology is a useful subject for any career involving people. It will enable you to develop analytical skills, which can be applied to any other subject, workplace or general life situation. Studying psychology will help you to understand the various possible explanations for your own and other people’s behaviour. Possible careers involving psychology could be: Teaching, Counselling, Clinical, Forensic, Educational and Sports Psychology, Social Work, Personnel; Management, Medicine and most areas involving interactions with others.
