Fashion and Textiles Level 3 at Gateshead College

Course description

This is a vocational course to develop your skills in fashion and textiles.

The course will give you the opportunity to explore a range of materials, media and techniques.

You will produce work which investigates and explores your creativity and knowledge of this industry through researching traditional and contemporary designers, combining this with hands on practical skills development.

 

Course content

In your first year you will learn about a wide range of textile techniques and generate ideas which can be applied to explore through Fashion and textile design.

You will need to be open minded, creative and experimental.

You will work to diverse exciting briefs relevant to your interest in this area.

In year two you will tailor your interests to develop your own individual style to create a professional portfolio of work relevant to your chosen progression route or career.

Entry requirements

  • Four GCSEs at C or above, or a Level 2 Diploma at Merit or above, preferably in appropriate subject areas.
  • Level 2 English/literacy is essential.
  • Level 2 Math/numeracy is desirable.
  • Students without either or both will be encouraged to study them alongside their main programme. appropriate experience.

Assessment

Continuous assessment using class based assignments and portfolio of evidence

Future opportunities

Fast-track to an apprenticeship

If you can’t find the right apprenticeship vacancy or you want to do some studying first - no problem. You can start on a vocational study programme then once you’re ready and a vacancy becomes available, we’ll help you transfer on to an apprenticeship.

    • Gateshead College's Baltic Campus is located on the Gateshead quayside, just minutes from Newcastle City Centre and its attractions.

      The College is situated behind the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and The Sage Gateshead.

      The College has its own car park, but at busy times alternative parking is available nearby.

      There is a charge for parking. Students can apply for a permit to allow free parking during study time.
