Polish AS & A Level at Blessed Hugh Faringdon Catholic School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

Polish is spoken by almost 40 million people in Poland as well as by millions throughout a global diaspora of Poles in countries as diverse as Brazil, Central Asia, Australia, Germany, Russia and the United States. A-level Polish helps students develop confident, effective reading and writing skills in Polish. It develops an awareness and understanding of the contemporary society, cultural background and heritage of countries or communities where the language is spoken.

Entry requirements

Grade B at GCSE Polish.


There are total of two units in the specification- one at AS and one at A level. Two units are assessed by written exam in June. Written paper consisting of reading comprehension, translation into English and writing in Polish. For each section knowledge of grammar is required.

Future opportunities

A qualification in Polish will offer you a range of employment opportunities and not just in the traditional fields of teaching, tourism, government and marketing. A Level Polish will also benefit you in areas such as travel, work and even studying abroad.
