BTEC Level 3 National Certificate in Children's Play, Learning and Development (CPLD) at Garforth Academy
The Certificate in CPLD will run alongside the National Subsidiary Diploma in Health and Social Care providing a total equivalency of three A Levels which will provide a greater scope of HE opportunities and employment.
This is a 2 year course and is equivalent to 2 A Levels. It involves a minimum of 750 mandatory work placement hours, experienced in a minimum of three Early Years settings with children from birth to 8 years of age.
Two days every week will be spent in the work placement with three separate block placement weeks each year. Examples of topics studied include Principles of Child Development, Play and Learning, Safeguarding in Early Years and Observation, Assessment and Planning. A range of innovative and exciting teaching strategies are used which include Guest Speakers from the sector and visits to a range of settings to include a Centre of Excellence during the second year.
5 GCSEs grade 9 -4 including Maths and English
A clear DBS is required before Work Placement can commence.
A Placement may have to be completed in the School holidays
Assessment is through a combination of internally and externally set assignments, an external examination and a Practical Evidence Portfolio (PEP) which is produced using experiences, work examples and reflection from the workplace.
On successful completion of the course, Early Years Educator (EYE) status is achieved.
Employment opportunities include Nursery Practitioner roles in schools and nurseries, Teaching Assistant roles, working abroad and working with children, young people and families within the Social Services sector.
University degrees include Primary Education, Childhood Studies, Social Work and Midwifery.
