History A Level at Rosebery School

Course description

Students achieve consistently high grades in History at Rosebery, with our ALPS score of a 2 in 2016 showing how well students do studying this course. Universities are particularly impressed to see students who have studies History as it teaches them the skills of comprehension, analysis and evaluation, all routed in real-life examples.

Course content

1C - The Tudors: England 1485-1603

2O – Democracy and Nazism: Germany 1918-1945

3 - Historical Investigation – Russia 1854-1964

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade 5 in English and Grade C in History.

Assessment

Unit 1 – two-hour and 30 minute written exam (essays and interpretations)

Unit 2 – two-hour and 30 minute written exam (essays and primary sources)

Unit 3 –independently researched and written essay of between 3000-4000, using primary and secondary sources.

Future opportunities

History is useful for careers including archaeology, archive work, broadcasting, the Civil Service, law, local planning, public relations, teaching, business and management… the list is endless! History is a really highly regarded course to study as it teaches you the key skills of analysis and evaluation, as well as how to formulate an argument.

Further information

Use of various sources, such as videos, films, lectures, research, analysis of sources, written work, visits, etc. We also use debate, discussion and research activities to ensure knowledge is up-to-date and considers the interpretations of historians.
