Creative and Media - Higher Diploma at Queensbury School

Course description

This course is offered by 'Go Live'. Go-live is a programme of learning that allows students to study for a vocational qualification. Two days each week you will be out of school with a training provider and the remaining days will be in school working on other projects. The programme is for students aged 16-19.

Course content

Have you every wanted to learn about performing arts, IT and photography? Diplomas offer young people a fully rounded education, which combines theoretical and practical learning. This course will give you the knowledge and skills that you need for college, university or work in an exciting, creative and enjoyable way. It is an extremely practical course and during your training you will complete three compulsory subjects comprising the introduction to creative and media skills, presentation and skills report.

As well as these, you are able to choose two optional units from a choice of three. These include visual arts, performance and media production. You will come into contact with people who work in this industry and will learn how to interact and express yourself confidently in a working environment by developing both your personal and thinking skills.To fulfil the functional skills element of the course, you are required to complete a minimum of ten days work experience.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry qualifications. All students are required to attend an interview prior tobeing accepted onto the course and will need to carry out a basic skills assessment. What we are looking for are enthusiastic students who genuinely want to improve themselves. Academic ability, although important to all courses, is secondary to commitment and a willingness to work hard.

This is a course that valuespractical skills and the ability to work with others in school and at an external training provider.If you are interested in this course, you must speak to your Head of Year in the first instance.

Assessment

During the course you will be required to build up a portfolio of evidence, and demonstrate your knowledge through practical demonstration and assignments. You will receive one-to-one reviews of your learning and be given written feedback in your portfolio and oral feedback during practical sessions. Employers and other partners engaged in the delivery of the Diploma will also contribute with feedback on your progression. You will also be required to take a written examination.

You will need to pass Functional Skills qualifications in English, Maths & ICT, as well as an extended Project.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of the course, you will be awarded a Level 1 Foundation Diploma in Creative and Media qualification, which is equivalent to 5 GCSEs at D-G. This qualification will allow you to progress onto the next Diploma level, take anothergeneral qualificationor go intofurther education. As this course has been developed with the relevant employers and Skills Sector Council, it also offers studentsopportunities for future employment within the Creative and Media sectors and related industries.
