Course description

Apprenticeship in Playwork consists of:* CACHE Level 2 Diploma in Playwork - 500/9047/1* Functional skills maths Level 1* Functional skills English Level 1The aim of this qualification is to contribute to the skills, knowledge and overall performance of play workers. It provides an insight into the principles of care and legislation of the Playwork sector and will aid career development.This QCF competence-based qualification is designed for those people who:* are involved in Playwork as their primary work activity* are seeking a career in Playwork and wish to take the first steps towards professional qualifications* wish to gain recognition of their skills and experience in the Playwork sector

Entry requirements

All prospective learners will undertake an informal interview and complete a skills scan & initial assessment.

Assessment

Competence based assessment by portfolio.The qualification consists of a minimum of 61 credits.These are drawn from 45 mandatory credits and a minimum of 16 credits from the optional.Unit selection: Mandatory:*Playwork principles*Working within a play environment with children and young people*Supporting children and young people's play.*Relationships in the play environment*Health and Safety in the play environment*The safeguarding and welfare of children and young people in the play environment*Developing own playwork and team practice*Reflective playwork practice*Contribute to the health, safety, security and welfare of the children and young people using the play environment*Help to improve own practice and the work of the playwork team*Support relationships in the play environment*Work with children and young people to create play spaced and support freely chosen self-directed play.Optional:Optional units will be chosen in discussion with your Assessor in order to ensure the assessment criteria can be achieved.

Future opportunities

Successful students may progress on to a higher level. Playwork employees who advance to a Key worker position can then undertake Advanced Apprenticeship in Playwork.

      The site is situated on Talbot Road (A5014), 2 miles from M602 slip Road (Junction 3) and 2 miles from Junction 7 of the M60. The College is located opposite Lancashire County Cricket Club and approximately 10 minutes walk from Old Trafford Football Ground.
