French AS at Tomlinscote School and Sixth Form College

Course description

The study of a language as interconnecting disciplines in ways which deepen a student's understanding and enjoyment of the language and culture. The course includes Youth Culture and Concerns, Lifestyle - Health and Fitness, The World Around Us and Education and Employment. The course units at AS level are: 1. Spoken expression and response in French, where students show their ability to converse in French on a general topic area that they have chosen in advance 2. Understanding and written response in French, where students convey their understanding of French language texts and recordings. In addition, students will need to produce an essay to demonstrate the ability to manipulate French language.

5 C grades at GCSE including English & B grade in French

Future opportunities

You could take this course to complement other advanced level course or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in French, which could lead onto higher education in French, Languages or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to French or Languages such as a Teacher, Translator, or you may wish to use your French to study or work over in France. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the travel and tourism sector.
