Barbering Level 3 Diploma at Furness College
All the practical work is assessed in salon on clients and practical sessions.
Mandatory units studied include:
• Health and safety
• Advising and consulting with clients
• Cutting and styling men’s hair
• Facial hair cutting
• Promoting services
Optional units include:
• Designing and creating patterns
• Perming men’s hair
• Colouring men’s hair
• Providing shaving services
• Providing face massage services
Every full-time course will include a real experience of work.
Maths and English form part of this course and will be assessed at the relevant levels.
You will learn by working in a realistic working environment at your own pace. Before practical work begins you will study the underpinning knowledge required and your tutors will demonstrate the skills necessary.
Level 2 Diploma in Barbering is essential. You will also need a good level of basic education - 4 GCSEs at Grade D or above and relevant industrial experience.
All the practical work is assessed in salon on clients and practical sessions. Oral questions prove knowledge. There are assignments and written tests in each area. A portfolio of evidence is built up throughout the course and exams are set for the majority of units.
There is a dress code of tunic, black cardigan and trousers for £70. (The uniform is to be purchased through college). Closed toe shoes must be purchased independently. Extras include a day trip to Manchester Hair Show – approximately £25, kits from £120 and an optional trip to London Excell Hair Show, £150 (over 18s only).
Preparation for employment in the Barbering industry, salons, cruise liners, health spas etc. Further study may include trichology or complementary therapies. Progression is based on aptitude and a successful interview.
