Art & Design - 3D Design (Interior Design) A Level at Highbury College

Course description

This A Level provides you with an opportunity to develop your own ideas for interior design.

This programme can be combined with other AS/A Levels, with a vocational programme, such as an Edexcel Diploma, or studied on its own.

You will learn in a variety of ways, including demonstrations, skills workshops and formal lessons.

Course content

In year 1 you will complete the AS Level (coursework portfolio and an externally set assignment) and year 2 the A2 (personal investigation and an externally set assignment).

You will develop both theoretical and practical skills and investigate how ideas, feelings and meanings can be conveyed and interpreted in images and artefacts.

The jewellery programme will give you an excellent insight into making your own jewellery and the techniques involved. You will also look at and evaluate the work of others and use contextual influences in the production of your own work.

The interior design programme will involve looking at colour theory, mood boards, sample boards, patterns and textures, gaining inspiration through other designers, detailed measuring and plans, working to a theme or style and presenting a scheme.

Entry requirements

You will normally be expected to have five GCSEs at C or above, including English and a creative subject at Grade B.

Acceptance will be subject to interview.

Assessment

Assessment will be a mix of coursework portfolio and externally set assignments.

Future opportunities

This qualification can be used as part of combination of subjects for entry to university or work.
