Performing Arts BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (Dance) at Bedford College

Course description

This course will equip you with dance skills across a broad range of disciplines, including ballet, contemporary and jazz. You will also develop choreographic skills, enabling you to create dance routines for yourself and others.

Course content

During the course you will study a number of academic units that will develop your analytical skills, as well as your understanding of the performing arts industries and the role of dance within it. Due to the physically demanding nature of the course you will undertake a fitness programme to develop and maintain a high level of physical fitness.

Topics include:

  • Jazz
  • Ballet
  • Choreographing Dance
  • Dance Performance
  • Contemporary Dance.

Entry requirements

To begin this course you will need:

  • at least four GCSES at grade C or above, including English, OR
  • a BTEC Diploma in Performing Arts (including Functional Skills) at merit level, OR
  • an equivalent Level 2 qualification.

 

Entry will also be subject to a successful interview, where you will need to demonstrate prior experience in the field of dance, and pass an audition.

Financial information

This course could be free! You will be eligible if you are aged 19-24 on the 31st August of the year you are starting your course and are actively seeking employment and in receipt of a means tested benefit (such as job seekers, housing benefit, council tax benefit). Please note you will need to be able to produce evidence of the benefit in your name when you come to enrol.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this course you could progress on to a specialist dance school in your chosen area to further develop your career prospects. This course also attracts up to 420 UCAS points towards entry on to a degree-level course.

Further information

If you are aged 16-18, tuition fees, exam fees and College membership are free. However, there are additional costs associated with some courses. For example, you may be required to purchase specialist uniforms, equipment or books. To take part in this course there will be an additional fee of £150 for required clothing/uniform, and approximately £100 for trips and visits.
