Physics at Range High School

Course description

The course aims to develop your understanding of the world around you, from the smallest building blocks of matter, light ,the Universe and everything in between! You will develop analytical, quantitative and problem solving skills through engaging, interactive and practical lessons.

The AS course continues with the familiar GSCE themes of mechanics, energy, waves, and electricity. Also introduced are the exciting concepts of particle and quantum physics. The A2 course covers the compulsory topics of gravity, electromagnetism, nuclear and thermal physics. There is also a choice of one optional unit including astrophysics, medical physics and turning points in physics.

Throughout the course there is also a strong emphasis on extended practical work, using a range of technologies. This is an essential part of the course that contributes to your overall grade.

Entry requirements

To be guaranteed a place on this course you need to meet the Admissions Criteria for Range High School Sixth Form (Red Pathway) with:

* a B grade in Physics GCSE or in Additional Science (including grade B in the PHYSICS section)

* satisfactory academic and attitude references
