BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Retail at Trafford College

Course description

This course is for students over 16 wishing to work in the Retail Sector - the course will prepare them to work in that sector.The course has been designed and developed with a Career Ready link too, giving learners a qualification that will enable them to:* Deepen their understanding of the more senior roles in the retail and logistics sectors* Focus on their own self development through project work* Interact with business people in the retail sector throughout the course of study* Complete additional study to gain a Chartered Institute of Purchase and Supply Certificate (CIPS)The course is unit is based with 12 units which are:1. Personal and Business Finance2. Recruitment and Selection Process3. Team Building in Business4. Investigating Retail Business5. Visual Merchandising6. Work Experience in Business7. Investigating the Business Environment8. Customer Service in Retail9. Retailing in Food and Fashion10. Buying for Business11. Supply Chain Operations12. Marketing Planning

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grades A* - C including maths and English; or a BTEC First Diploma in a related subject area at Merit grade or above (plus GCSE maths and English at grade C), and a successful interview.

Assessment

There is continual assessment for each of the units by vocational assignments. One unit will involve a 2 hour externally set examination (Personal and Business Finance) and one unit is an externally assessed case study (Investigating the Business Environment) for 3 hours.Students will also be required to undertake at least a four week internship at a host organisation.

Future opportunities

Opportunities to progress to higher education vocational qualifications such as the Level 4/5 BTEC Higher Nationals Business or a Higher Level Apprenticeship in Retail/Logistics. This Diploma is equivalent to 2 A Levels for university entrance purposes.
