Engineering Technology - Level 1 at North Kent College

Course description

This course meets the requirements of students who are interested in how machines and handtools are used to produce parts and components that are used in the manufacturing and maintenance industries

Course content

The course is divided equally between classroom and workshop activities; The student will be working with traditional engineering handtools, files, hacksaws, and drilling machines etc. Students will progress on this course to use machines such as the Lathe and Milling machine. Modern Arc Welding techniques will be introduced in this course. In the classroom the use, type of materials used, production techniques and engineering drawings will be studied.

Entry requirements

Minimum 4 GCSEs Grades D/E, (preferred English, Mathematics and Science), Entry Level Basic Engineering.


Continuous observed assessment of workshop practical competence and some end testing by external examinations. A folder of written and computer generated work is also produced as evidence, this requires a written statement of support from your tutor.
