English Literature at Hele's School
An ability to engage with and analyse a range of texts, a love of reading and a fluent and accurate writing style.
The course is structured to enable the study of poetry, prose and drama from different historical periods, encouraging connections to be made through genre and critical theory. In Year 12 four writers, as well as two plays are studied. In Year 13 the course looks at Gothic genre in drama and prose, from Chaucer to the twentieth century, and a final unit allows students to focus on further and independent reading.
At least 5 A*-C including English and Maths.
It is not essential that students should have GCSE English Literature, though most will. In order to be able to study and write about literature at this level students should have at least a B in English and Media/Literature.
