Children’s Care, Learning and Development Level 3 Diploma at Coleg y Cymoedd

Course description

This course provides the knowledge and practical skills necessary for working in a variety of Childcare settings.

Time is spent in college and in a number of appropriate work placements, in order to gain experience, planning and carrying out activities for children, and to observe children's development.

Course content

You will study a range of units, such as Child Development from 0 -19 years, Play, Practical Elements, and Observation & Assessment. In addition to these units, you will study the Essential Skill of Communication.

Entry requirements

You will require 5 GCSEs at grades A*- C, including English/Welsh and Maths, or completion of a full relevant vocational programme at Level 2 which must also include GCSE English/Welsh and Maths at grades A*-C or equivalent such as Level 2 ESW Communications and Application of Number. Plus satisfactory references

You must have satisfactory clearance with the Disclosure and Barring Service .You will be invited to attend an interview. During this interview, you will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.


You will be assessed using a range of methods, which will include written assignments and practical assessment in work placement.

Future opportunities

After successfully completing this course, you will be able to apply for employment within a childcare setting, e.g. schools, nurseries, special schools, day-care centres, hospitals or working for private families as a nanny, or progress to the Level 3 Extended Diploma for Children’s Care, Learning and Development, which will allow you to undertake courses/degrees in Higher Education.
