Why should I take this course?
If you are thinking about a career in property development or the construction industry, then this
course will extend both specialist work-related knowledge for renovating ahouse or fitting a new
kitchen and give you a foundation understanding of the construction industry. It is suitable for those who have decided that they wish to enter a particular area of work and those just looking to extend their own learning and skills. The course aims to prepare you specialist training leading to apprenticeships or employment within the construction industry.

Structures of the Construction Industry
Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction
Sustainability in the Construction Industry
Specialist areas of study will include:
Construction Processes and Operations for Low-rise Domestic Building
Exploring Trowel Operations
Exploring Roofing Operations
Performing Joinery Operations
Performing Plumbing Operations
Exploring Wall and Floor Tiling
What do I need to join this course?
You must be 16 years old and have a genuine interest in construction and at least one of the following:
BTEC Level 1 qualification in construction or a related vocational area. A standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education quivalent to 4 GCSEs at grade D-G
Other related Level 1 qualifications or related work experience
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is continual and will be observation of practical assignments, written tests, oral questions and written assignments.
Students can apply for support from the Student Support Fund (£20-33 per week).
What will I be able to do after the course finishes?
Progress on to a BTEC Level 3 Construction course to develop your specialist skills further or other Level 3 qualifications. Alternatively you could apply for an Apprenticeship or other training in the construction industry.
What qualification will I achieve if I successfully complete this course?
BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Construction (QCF).
