Sports Science BTEC Level 3 at Lancaster and Morecambe College

Course description

This is a two year full time course geared towards a career in the fast growing sports industry. The course aims to introduce students to the theory and application of sports science in sporting environments.

Course content

The course is practical and is based on work related assignments. You will study the following: • Anatomy for Sport and Exercise • Sport and Exercise Physiology • Sport and Exercise Psychology • Research Methods • Sports Nutrition • Analysis of Sports Performance • Applied Sports Physiology • Sport and Exercise Psychology • Sports Biomechanics • Fitness Training • Sports Injuries • Fitness Testing • Facility Management • Research Project in Sport • Instructing Physical Activity • Sports Coaching • Work Experience • Exercise for Specific Groups A key feature of this course is appropriate work experience in the leisure industry. You may also have the opportunity to join a training camp residential. All LMC students will receive tutorial support.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade A*-C including English and maths OR a Level 2 related qualification. Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.

Assessment

This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including course work, assignments and practical observations.

Financial information

£95.00 for a starter pack, equipment, transport for visits, Great Tower residential and sports t-shirt.

The course can lead onto a career in the fast growing leisure industry in areas such as: • Health Clubs • Leisure/Sport Centres • Private Sports Clubs • Fitness Centres • University It can also lead onto higher education for a teaching qualification or a sports science related degree course.

Further information

On completion of this course you will receive BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science, which is nationally recognised by employers, professional bodies, universities and colleges.

You will be expected to undertake regular home study on this course.
