Carpentry and Joinery at North Lancs Training Group (NLTG)

Course description

What is Carpentry and Joinery?

A Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship will train you to become either a joiner, who is essentially someone who makes the product, or a carpenter who installs or repairs the product. Traditionally, joiners work in workshops, producing the components for carpenters to install on site. As an apprentice on the Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship, you will receive comprehensive training in a variety of skills. These skills include manufacturing joinery, site carpentry, bench carpentry and specialist joinery. A Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship is varied and you could work for a joinery manufacturer or site carpentry firm.

On the Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship your training will cover the use of hand tools such as saws, hammers, chisels etc and power tools such as drills, jigsaws etc. It may be that your training as a carpenter or joiner involves travel to different locations especially building sites and domestic homes. Your training will be in a highly practical job under the guidance of an experienced carpenter or joiner.

What training will I receive?

You will be assessed in the workplace by a qualified NLTG Tutor. You will also attend a day release at college with a minimal amount of block release. Your tutor will come out to visit you at your place of work every 4 - 6 weeks. If you are unsure that an Apprenticeship is right for you then have a look at our 'Why choose an Apprenticeship?' page. If you feel you are not yet ready for an Apprenticeship, then have a look at a Traineeship first?
