Geography AS Level at East Berkshire College

Course description

Our A Level courses are offered as a full programme of study, with most students taking either three or four AS level subjects in their first year.

When applying for an A Level programme, you will be asked to enter a minimum of three and a maximum of four AS subjects at the application stage.

Your course interview will give you the opportunity to discuss your choices in detail with a member of the academic studies team and make changes to your programme once you have received advice and guidance.

Course content

The AS course is in two units.

The first is Physical and Human Geography in which students will study core geographical concepts as well as the themes of contemporary or environmental impact, management and sustainability.  These will include Rivers, Floods management and population change.

The second unit is a skills paper testing investigative, cartographic, graphical, ICT and statistical skills.

Entry requirements

A minimum of five GCSEs from A* to C is required to join the A level programme, and it is essential that students are keen to expand their knowledge of our global environment.

The course is primarily delivered through classroom lectures and field work. There will also be the opportunity to undertake field trips and research.

Future opportunities

One year at AS level followed by a further year to complete the full A level; progression to year two is conditional on achieving at least a D at AS.

Students will generally progress to Higher Education or employment.
