Travel and Tourism BTEC Level 3 at Varndean College

Course description

The courses available are the Single BTEC Level 3 (equivalent to 1 A Level) and the Double BTEC Level 3 (equivalent to 2 A Levels)

If you are interested in becoming one of the well-trained professionals needed to plan and manage tourist attractions, manage holiday resorts and organise tours, run travel agencies or work in passenger travel by land, sea and air, these courses could be right for you.

The Travel and Tourism courses are intensive and require significant use of ICT to conduct independent research.  You will have opportunities to complete short courses linked to specific job skills such as Airline Cabin Crew work.  Our teaching team have extensive experience in the travel industry and organise many trips and visits.

Assessment

The courses are assessed by part examination and controlled assessments and part coursework consisting of a series of assignments based on real organisations or situations.

Future opportunities

Typical career routes may include working for tour operators, travel agency work, managing visitor attractions, working in passenger transport, event management, planning and developing tourism.  University courses include international tourism management, event management, travel marketing and business.

Further information

There are some trips including occasional short foreign visits, and longer stays in places such as New York. There are some compulsory trips and students will need to make a payment of about £70 at the start of the course.

There are also opportunities for work experience placements. Students may be able to use this option as a way of enlarging their travel and tourism course. Work experience placements cannot be guaranteed and any students interested will need to discuss and negotiate the possibilities with the course team.
