As / A2 Level Spanish at St Michael's Catholic High School

Course description

Aims of the course:
The AS and A2 courses aim to further an interest and enthusiasm for language learning. Students will develop an understanding of Spanish in a variety of contexts and will be able to communicate confidently and clearly for a range of purposes. Furthermore the course aims to deepen awareness and understanding of the society and culture of Spain. Students will also acquire knowledge, skills and understanding for practical use and for further study and employment.

Course content:
Over the 2 years students will study the Spanish language and culture. The topics covered at AS are the media, popular culture, family and relationships and healthy living. Through these topics students will discuss issues such as the cult of the celebrity, fashion trends, the importance of a healthy lifestyle and the impact of the internet. At A2 the topics covered include the environment, the multicultural society including integration, contemporary social issues such as wealth and poverty and 2 cultural topics.

Entry requirements

At least a Grade B at GCSE and entered for all higher tiers, and a grade B in the written controlled assessment.
