History at The Elizabethan Academy

Course description

Course Content The course affords students the opportunity to follow a balanced path of British and European History. Moreover, there is a blend of early modern themes in our study of 17th century Britain with 20th century analysis of events in Russia and Germany.
2 Units at 'AS' level, including:

Unit 1: The early Stuarts and the coming of Civil War: Britain 1603 - 1642

Unit 2: Stalin and his impact on the Soviet Union, 1924 - 1941.


2 Units at 'A2' level, including:

Unit 3: Triumph and Collapse: Russia and the USSR, 1941-1991.

Unit 4: Historical Enquiry. A 3500 word essay either on a one hundred year period of Modern German History or on a similar period related to a country of the student's choice.

Entry requirements

You will need at least 5 GCSEs at A* - C (including GCSE Mathematics and/or GCSE English Language). 'AS': Grade B in GCSE History preferred or good grades in English or related humanities subjects. A genuine enthusiasm for the subject is desirable whether or not a student has studied the subject at GCSE. 'A2': At least grade D in 'AS' with a concerted plan to do better if grades were below expectation in year 12.
