Travel and Tourism at Lodge Park Academy

Course description

Year 12 – Certificate – AS Level

Unit 1: Investigating the travel & tourism sector
Learners will develop knowledge and understanding of the development of the travel and tourism industry. They will explore different sectors of the industry and investigate how the sectors work together to provide the tourist experience. They will also look at different employment opportunities.

Unit 2: The business of Travel and Tourism
Learners will develop knowledge of how businesses operate, particularly in the travel and tourism sectors. They will explore different types of travel and tourism organisations in terms of their structure, operation and financial performance. Learners will also produce a business case for a travel and tourism business.

Unit: The UK as a destination
Learners will develop knowledge and understanding of tourism in the UK. They will explore the different factor that contribute to the appeal of destinations, including the natural appeal, the location and access and the attractions which are to be found at a destination. They will first learn how to use different reference materials to investigate travel and tourism in the UK.

Year 13 – Subsidiary Diploma – 1 A Level

Unit 4: Customer service in travel and tourism
Learners will develop a knowledge and understanding of how it is vital for companies to provide excellent customer service in order to remain competitive in any business. In travel and tourism it is paramount. Learners will explore how products and services are often intangible and it is the quality of customer service that helps the customer to choose the right product for their needs. This unit will enable learners to develop excellent customer service skills needed for travel and tourism.

Unit 6: Preparing for employment in Travel & Tourism
Learners will develop a knowledge and understanding of what is required to work in the travel and tourism sector. Learners will explore the different job roles and opportunity within how the travel and tourism sector. Learners will gain practical skills by carrying out interviews and planning the recruitment process for a specific job role.

Unit 12: Responsible Tourism
Learners will develop a knowledge and understanding of the principles of responsible tourism. Learners will explore different countries and destinations and examine how factors both positive and negative affect the development of responsible tourism.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE qualifications at C grades or above including GCSE English Language and GCSE Maths.
