What will I study on this course?
This course offers a vibrant, in-depth study of practical and drama elements, including acting, directing, costume, lighting and sound. The 60% written paper weighting has raised the profile of this exciting exam which is respected in all the top universities, by producing students who can project themselves confidently in both presentation and analysis of scripted drama. Frequent visits to the theatre are an integral factor of the course. You will study how performers and directors communicate meaning to an audience, with specialist terminology for the subject. You will study influential practitioners such as Stanislavski and Brecht. The practical is internally assessed and externally moderated.
What do I need?
5 GCSE Grade A*-C passes including a C or above in English Language and preferably English Literature. Whilst a C or above in GCSE Drama is advisable, the course would suit those students new to Theatre Studies who want to develop confidence in performance skills and developing group unity within their chosen profession.
What does it prepare me for?
Progression to university and a wide variety of careers outside the theatre like law, teaching, personnel and marketing. In fact, most careers where a strong personality and using your initiative really count.
