Spanish AS/A Level at Northallerton School & Sixth Form College
In the first year you will studys topics which include modern society and the cultural heritage of Spanish speaking countries. You will also study in depth the work of a Spanish filmmaker.
Independent listening and reading programmes are an integral part of the course. Lessons are conducted in the foreign language as far as possible and make use of authentic Spanish or Latin American material, including videos and newspaper articles.
Students should have a minimum of a Grade B in Spanish at GCSE.
Paper 1: Listening, reading and writing 1.45 hour exam
Paper 2: Writing - 1 essay 1.30 hour exam
Paper 3: Speaking 12 -14 minute exam
Paper 1: Listening, reading and writing 2.30 hour exam
Paper 2: Writing - 2 essays 2 hour exam
Paper 3: Speaking 21 - 23 minute exam
A lot of universities offer students the opportunity to study Spanish alone, but also alongside a variety of subjects, such as law, business, linguistics or science. A modern language is also increasingly vital for employment, with major companies reporting
a shortage of bilingual applicants.
