Course description

GENERAL AIMS OF THE COURSE:

Computer Science is a practical subject where learners can apply the academic principles learned in the classroom to real world systems. It is an intensely creative subject that combines invention and excitement, and can look at the natural world through a digital prism.

COURSE OUTLINE & ASSESSMENT:

 

Paper 1: Computing Principles

The characteristics of contemporary processors.

Software and software development.

Legal, moral, cultural and ethical issues.

Data types, data structures and algorithms.

 

How is it assessed:

Written exam of 1 hour 15 minutes

70 marks

50% of AS Level

 

Paper 2: Algorithms and problem Solving

Elements of computational thinking.

Problem solving and programming.

Algorithms.

 

How is it assessed:

Written exam of 1 hour 15 minutes

70 marks

50% of AS Level

Entry requirements

Level 6 in Computer Science GCSE

This qualification is suitable for learners intending to pursue any career in which an understanding of technology is needed.

Sixth Form staff are always on hand to help. Students also have access to a state of the art fitness suite and extensive playing fields with all-weather facilities.
