Course description

Fabrication and Welding Advanced Apprenticeshipis usually undertaken by individuals who have attained either a Level 2 NVQ or Intermediate Apprenticeship with an evolving job role suitable to suit this level of programme, greater level responsibility and also evolving skills set within a specific discipline.

Course content

The programme consists of an NVQ in Fabrication and Welding with a specific pathway, Technical Certificate in Welding, Functional Skills Mathematics, English and ICT, Employment Right and Responsibilities (ERR) and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS).

Entry requirements

Ideally GCSE grade C and above (or equivalent) Mathematics, English and Science, however those who have successfully achieved an Intermediate Apprenticeship or NVQ may have demonstrated potential to progress onto an Advanced Apprenticeship.


The NVQ will be assessed in the workplace through a portfolio of evidence, Technical Certificate will be day release with course work, practical tests/exams and written tests/exams. Functional skills will be achieved through protfolio, discussions and online tests.

Financial information

Those individuals aged 16 to 18 will be eligible for full programme funding, those aged 19+ will be part-funded.

Future opportunities

Candidates completing Advanced Apprenticeship may want to progress to relevant Higher Apprenticeship or HNC. They may even go towards management/supervisory qualifications.
