BTEC Sport at Q3 Academy

Course description

The BTEC Firsts in Sport have been designed to build on learning from Key Stage 3 and 4, for those students that may wish to explore a vocational route in Post-16 education.Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.

Course content

They provide an opportunity for students to gain a nationally recognised Level 2 vocationally specific qualification to enter employment in the sport and leisure sector to progress to further qualifications. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning and achievement, taking into account industry standards for behaviour and performance. Students are given the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life.

Entry requirements

It is strongly recommended that students participate in at least sport or physical activity on a regular basis in their own personal time and do have a genuine interest in sport and physical activities.


Assessment is through assignment, either practical or written

Financial information

In most cases the course is free of charge. A fee may charged for re-sits or the general public. Students may be eligible for a weekly Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA), paid during term time, depending onyour household income. For further information please visit

The course is excellent preparation for students wishing to progress to level 3 or degree level study in both Physical Education and/or Sport Studies.
