Course content

This course provides a good foundation to those wishing to follow a career in one of the many engineering sectors and also provides knowledge and develops skills which are transferable to many other industries.  It is equally suitable for boys and girls.The course is predominantly concerned with the use and fabrication of metals and plastics and builds the skills and knowledge required to do this.Areas covered include:-The use of basic bench tools to facilitate the accurate marketing out of metals.                                       The use of hand tools and machinery sued for the production of metal artefacts.                                           The Engineering Industry - to understand the different sectors and career opportunities.                    Health and Safety - risk assessment and risk reduction.                                                                                  The use of modern control technology in engineering sectors - use of CAD/CAM in the design and production of engineering artefacts. Effective graphical and design skills to solve engineering problems.

Assessment

The course is assessed in three units:Unit 1 - Design and Graphical Communication.Unit 2 - Engineered Product.Unit 3 - Application of Technology.Unit 1 & 2 are internally assessed assignments.Unit 3 is an external written examination.
