Course description

The Computing & ICT department at Bishop Thomas Grant School prides itself on being a forward-thinking department where students are introduced to the latest hardware and software at the earliest possible opportunity.  Our outstanding provision ensures that students are given a modern, vibrant and interactive learning environment both in terms of up-to-date courses and lesson resources as well as excellent teaching expertise.

Coursework: Practical Issues Involved in the Use of ICT in the Digital World - INFO 4

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade A*-C including Maths and English

Other Level 2 qualifications such as GCSE (Double Award) in GCSE ICT at Grades AA – CC, Edexcel Qualification in Digital Applications, Edexcel BTEC First Diploma IT Practitioners.

Assessment

INFO 1

50% of AS, 25% of A-Level, 1 hour 30 minutes examination

  • Section A: short answer questions
  • Section B: structured questions

INFO 2

50% of AS, 25% of A-Level, 1 hour 30 minutes examination

  • Section A: short answer questions
  • Section B: structured questions

INFO 3

30% of A-Level, 2 hour examination

  • Section A: structured questions based on pre-release material
  • Section B: questions requiring extended answers, 

INFO 4

20% of A-Level, Coursework project report, marked by centre and moderated by AQA

  • Students complete a project involving the production of an ICT-related system over an extended period of time

Future opportunities

This qualification is not designed to prepare you for direct entry into employment, however it supports progression into further education and training.  Appropriate further education courses are:

  • a BTEC Higher National in Computing
  • a BTEC Foundation Degree in Computing
  • a degree in computing, IT or related fields
