Latin GCSE at Calday Grange Grammar School
The pupils will continue the Latin Oxford Course, using books 2 and 3. The major part of the grammar and syntax demanded by the GCSE specification is covered in Year 10 and is consolidated by practice exercises and by rapid reading of passages from the Oxford Course which cover aspects of Roman history and life. Also at this stage, the pupil is introduced to extracts of original Latin literature in preparation for the prescribed literature component of the GCSE examination.
In addition, two topics from Roman civilization are studied.
In the GCSE examinations, the student will be expected to translate unseen Latin prose into English, answer comprehension questions on Latin prose passages and demonstrate an understanding of the prescribed literature.
