Mathematics (Further) at The Hertfordshire and Essex High School and Science College
Students of this course will form a discrete Mathematics and Further Mathematics group taught by two teachers throughout Years 12 and 13.
AS Mathematics is followed by AS Further Mathematics in Year 12, and in Year 13 A2 Mathematics is followed by A2 Further Mathematics.
The Further Mathematics course consists of six modules
In Year 12 we study Decision Mathematics modules D1 and D2 and Further Pure 1, a unit of Pure Mathematics. These are assessed in three 90 minute examinations.
In Year 13, students take modules Further Pure 2, Mechanics 2 and Statistics 2.
These modules are assessed with a 90 minute examination.
In addition, students may be able to take Further Pure 3. This would be useful to any student intending to study Mathematics, Physics or Engineering at university.
There is also the possibility of studying for a STEP or AEA qualification in Year 13, if required, and timetabled lessons are provided once a week to prepare students for these examinations.
The modules studied in this course are open to some discussion, so that we can best meet the needs of an individual group.
GCSE grade A* in Mathematics is required. Students must also choose Mathematics as one of their A Level subjects.
