Early Years Diploma Level 1 at Gloucestershire College

Course description

This course introduces you to the skills needed to care for young children while also enabling you to gain the maths, English and interpersonal skills you’ll need to progress
on to the Level 2 course in your second year.

This qualification is designed to introduce learners to the care and learning needs of young children. The course covers the importance of a safe and hygienic environment for a young child as well as healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle.

Course content

Some of the topics you will study include:
  • The importance of day to day routines, play and learning in the home
  • Communication, listening to and talking with a young child
  • The value of a healthy lifestyle and diet
  • Communication and learning
  • Aspects of play
  • The importance of building confidence

In addition to this course you will be given the opportunity to study for a number of additional qualifications including Functional Skills.

 

Entry requirements

You will need to have 3 GCSE's at grade E or Entry 3 in English & Maths Functional Skills. Selection is completed following a successful interview, positive reference, participation and successful selection at an ‘Experience day’ and completion of an initial assessment.

Financial information

You will also be charged a fee at enrolment to cover the cost of at least one educational trip or acitivity.

Future opportunities

Upon successful completion, you may be able to move on to our Level 2 course.
