Film Studies A Level at East Riding College
This course will be of interest to you if you have a passion for watching and discussing films and if you wish to progress to a higher education course in film studies (either vocational or academic).
This qualification would help with a career in teaching, film industry and management.
You can study this subject for one year and earn an AS-level or for two years and earn an A2-level.
Unit one: Exploring Film Form
- The 'language' of film
- How that language is read by audiences
- Creative project
Unit two: British and American Film
- Exploring the film industry
- British film, including genre, stars and films
- American film topics - comparative study
- Five GCSEs at grade A* to C including a minimum grade B in English, or equivalent qualifications
Successful interview demonstrating motivation and commitment to the course and an initial assessment
If English is not your first language you will also need an IELTS score of 5.5 or above
Sixty per cent of assessment is through one two and-a-half-hour examination. The remaining 40 per cent is through coursework.
You could progress to a foundation degree or degree course.
Career possibilities could include work within the TV and media industry on completion of a vocational degree, or within arts or educational organisations on completion of an academic degree.
