Digital Media - OCR Cambridge Level 3 Diploma at Redcar & Cleveland College

Course description

Units include:

Graphic Design, Web Design, Social Media, Games Industry, Games Production, Animation Studies, Animation Industry, Comic Strips and Graphic Novels, 3D Modelling for Characters and Environments in Computer Games.

As part of your course you will also work toward a maths and English qualification, take part in work experience and various education trips and visits to relevant organisations such as Digital City, Bradford Media Museum and educational residential trips.

Course content

Digital Media is shaping our lives in the twenty first century in ways which were previously unimaginable. From the moment we wake up to the time we go to sleep we are constantly stimulated by digital media from our phone and tablets and computer screens. From designing web sites to developing marketing strategies for social media marketing this course allows you to explore every aspect of digital media and associated technologies. We afford you the opportunity to solve challenging tasks from creating a social media campaign to developing environments to be used in a computer game. Digital Media can lead a whole range of successful careers from Graphic Designer and web developer to digital animator to illustrator. The Games Production units provide building blocks which would allow you to progress into games design, concept art, 3D modelling, texture mapping, lighting, rigging and animation.

Entry requirements

Level 2 – Four grade D GCSEs (Including Maths and English)

Level 3 – Four grade C (or above) (Including Maths and English)


You will take part in practical activities, group discussion, develop and pitch your project proposals, record your software skills using screen capture software and have a dedicated self- study period so that work can be completed. You will have access to all learning materials via our Blackboard system.

Future opportunities

Progress onto the next level, obtain a modern apprenticeship placement. Apply for university (need L3 Diploma) to study a Foundation or a Degree
