Mathematics (Core) at St George's Church of England Foundation School (Broadstairs)

Course description

An exciting opportunity to be part of a qualification aimed at gaining the Maths accreditation of the new Technological Baccalaureate. It is a Level 3 qualification accredited by Ofqual which is the equivalent of an AS-level. Core Maths aims to give students the confidence and skills to succeed not only in Core Maths but in using their mathematics in other post-16 qualifications such as Business Studies and IT.

 

Core Maths is about students doing meaningful mathematical problems to increase their confidence in using maths and to be better equipped for the mathematical demands of other courses, higher education, employment and life.

Course content

The content will mainly reflect that of the new GCSE Maths Higher Tier with around 20% taken from AS/A Level Maths and/or other areas.

 

There are two exams at the end of the two years; both lasting one and half hours.

 

Paper 1:

Data analysis, personal finance, modelling and estimation

 

Paper 2:

Critical analysis, the normal distribution, confidence intervals, correlation and regression

 

The course will focus on problem solving and developing skills needed in real life and for studying.

 

Entry requirements

GCSE Maths Grade 4 or above.

Assessment

100% Examination.
