Course description

An interest in sport is vital with high performance levels in sport as a performer, coach or official. You need to have: • the ability to work well independently and as part of a team. • high organisaFonal skills – there are lots of different units with different teachers. • excellent Fme management – the ability to manage work load and meet deadlines.

Course content

AS Level

Unit 1 - 2 hour written examination

Topics include:

Health, exercise and fitness Nutrition

Cardio-respiratory system Analysis of movement

Levers Information processing

Learning and performance Opportunities for participation

Provision of sport Increasing participation levels

Barriers to participation

Unit 2 - Practical coursework

In one sport you will be assessed on your performance in practice situations in 2 out of the following 3 roles:

Performer

Coach

Official

Advanced Level

Unit 3 - 2 hour written examination

Topics include:

Energy systems Training

Sports injuries Mechanics of movement

Personality Anxiety

Attitude Aggression

Confidence Groups

Leadership World games

World class performance Achieving excellence

History of sport Deviance in sport

Commercialisation of sport

Unit 4 - Coursework

In one sport you will be assessed on your performance in a competitive situation as a performer, official or a coach. There is also a written element that involves analysing performance.

Entry requirements

You studied GCSE PE in Years 10 and 11.

You are regularly taking part in a sport at a good standard as a performer, official or coach.

Assessment

AS Written examination 60% Practical coursework 40%

A2 Written examination 60% Practical coursework 40%
