Physics at Calday Grange Grammar School
At Calday students study for the AQA GCE Physics A specification. The course is designed to offer a smooth pathway from GCSE and a route to university courses in physics and other subjects in which physics is a key component. The course is designed with two possible starting points, one aiming at new ideas, and the other building more on previous knowledge first. Our experience is that building on previous knowledge actually builds confidence and produces students that have a greater ability to solve problems in unfamiliar situations.
It is expected that students wishing to study physics at A-level would have a minimum of a grade B in both GCSE Physics (or Science if Physics is not studied as a subject in your school) and Mathematics. Study-ing Mathematics at AS level is a good idea if studying Physics at A-level, although not a requirement. However, because there is a small amount of Mathematics used in A-level Physics that does not appear in the GCSE Mathematics course, there is an internally run Mathematics course for students not studying AS Mathematics to ensure that they are not disadvantaged.
