BTEC Level 3 National in Business at Longsands Academy

Course description

What is a BTEC National Qualification?

BTEC Nationals are widely recognised by industry and higher education as the signature vocational qualification at Level 3. They provide progression to the workplace either directly or via study at a higher level.

 

St. Neots Sixth Form Students completing their BTEC Nationals in Business will be aiming to go on to employment, often via the stepping stone of higher education. Both courses are designed to be completed over a 2 year period.

 

We offer two options:

 

  1. BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Business - Equivalent in size and study hours of 1 A Level

     

  2. BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Business - Equivalent in size and study hours of 2 A Levels

Course content

Both courses require students to complete units of work, through both internal and external assessment. The course outline is detailed below.

  1. BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Business - 4 Units of study

3 mandatory units:

    • Developing a Marketing Campaign Externally assessed

    • Personal and Business Finance Externally assessed

    • Exploring Business Internally assessed

1 other unit, chosen by your teacher:

  • Recruitment and Selection Internally assessed

     

  1. BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Business – 8 Units of study

     

6 mandatory units:

    • Exploring Business Internally assessed

    • Developing a Marketing Campaign Externally assessed

    • Personal and Business Finance Externally assessed

    • Managing an Event Internally assessed

    • International Business Internally assessed

    • Principles of Management Externally assessed

2 other units, chosen by your teacher:

    • Digital Marketing Internally assessed

    • Recruitment and selection Internally assessed

Entry requirements

Desirable: GCSE/ BTEC grade '5'/Merit. Level 2 VCert in Business, Merit.

Students must have a grade 5 in Mathematics and English Language.

APS: 5.5

Future opportunities

With a track record built over 30 years of learner success, BTEC Nationals are widely recognised

by industry and higher education as the signature vocational qualification at Level 3. They provide

progression to the workplace, either directly or via study at a higher level. Students can use their BTEC National award to progress to university, usually as a combination with other A Level / BTEC National subjects.
