BTEC Health and Social Care (Subsidiary Diploma and the Diploma) at Millbrook Academy

Course description


BTEC level 3 subsidiary Diploma (equivalent of 1 A level)

This course consists of 6 units taught over 2 years.  Core units include:

·        Developing Effective Communication

·        Equality, Diversity and Rights

·        Health, Safety and Security


Further units include:

·        Development through the life stages

·        Nutrition

·        Safeguarding adults and promoting independence


BTEC Level 3 Diploma (Equivalent of 2 A Levels)

In addition to the core units you will complete specialist and optional units that could include:

·        Anatomy and Physiology in Health and Social Care

·        Working with Children

·        Development through the life stages

·        Complimentary therapies

·        Personal and professional Development

You will also be expected to complete 100 hours work experience within a Health and Social care setting.

The BTEC Subsidiary Diploma and Diploma in Health and Social Care are vocational qualifications which will develop your understanding of the Health and Social Care sector.  The course will teach you the skills, knowledge and understanding you need to work within the Health, Social Care, Early Year’s environment or any career working with people.


During the course you will develop your communication skills and research skills.  You will use analytical thinking skills to investigate and learn about a range of Health and Social Care topics.


Entry requirements

Minimum 5 A-C at GCSE level.
