Photography Level 2 at Gateshead College

Course description

An introduction to photography.  You will be taught how to use a DSLR and how to compose and construct images.  Alongside these skills you will also be trained in photo-manipulation using professional software. 

The programme includes practical, theory and contextual work.

You will be encouraged to take a broad view of photography and include elements of a range of Art and Design disciplines. 

The programme is sectioned into focused projects aimed to link with business and designed to develop your abilities. These projects will also involve research, taught classroom and workshop sessions and self-reflection.

Feedback will be given at all stages of your development.

Entry requirements

  • This course is Level 2 - you should have appropriate vocational qualifications at Level 1 or some GCSEs at grade D or above, preferably including English and maths.

Assessment

Continuous assessment using class based assignments and portfolio of evidence

Future opportunities

On completion of this course you could progress onto a range of Further Education programmes of study.

If you can’t find the right apprenticeship vacancy or you want to do some studying first - no problem. You can start on a vocational study programme then once you’re ready and a vacancy becomes available, we’ll help you transfer on to an apprenticeship.

    • Gateshead College's Baltic Campus is located on the Gateshead quayside, just minutes from Newcastle City Centre and its attractions.

      The College is situated behind the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and The Sage Gateshead.

      The College has its own car park, but at busy times alternative parking is available nearby.

      There is a charge for parking. Students can apply for a permit to allow free parking during study time.
