BTEC National Extended Certificate in Performing Arts (Drama) - Equivalent to 1 A Level at The Towers School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

This course provides students with an understanding of drama with specific focus on the essential skills, techniques and disciplines needed for a career in the acting profession. 

Course content

Unit 1: Investigating Practitioners’ Work 

Unit 2: Developing Skills and Techniques for Live   Performance 

Unit 3: Group Performance Workshop

Unit 4: Acting Skills/Improvisation/Developing the voice for performance

Entry requirements

A level 2 qualification such as BTEC Drama or GCSE Drama grade 5 and above are desirable; however if you do not have these qualifications you will be expected to demonstrate acting ability and technical awareness at this level in order to be accepted onto the course.

Assessment

A mixture of External and Internal assessments. Students will explore drama and performance history and work towards developing a critical understanding of how actors communicate themes within their work. Students will participate in workshops and technique classes analysing their strengths and weaknesses in order to improve their performance. Students will develop their own work and perform in a variety of genres.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of this course would allow students to go on to study at college or university, or prepare them for the world of work.

Career progression: Drama teacher, Actor, Director, Musical Theatre practitioner; please note that key skills learnt are also transferable to other professions.
