English Literature at The Telford Langley School

Course description

This course will look at writers published before 1914 and after 1914. This will include novels and short stories, poetry anthology, a Shakespeare drama, pre 1914, "An inspector Calls" and "A View from the Bridge" post 1914 dramas.

Course content


Unit 1 Exploring Modern Texts


Section A : Modern Prose or Drama

20% of GCSE Lit marks

Section B : Exploring Cultures 20% of GCSE marks

Unit 2 Poetry Across Time

Examination 35% of GCSE marks

Section A : Poetry cluster from the anthology

Section B : Responding to an unseen poem

Unit 3 The significance of Shakespeare and the English Literary Heritage

Controlled Assessment 3-to 4 hours

Comparison of play with film version, for example.
