General Studies B AS-Level at Oakgrove School

Course description

This course is only offered as an AS only and consists of 2 units.

Course content

Unit 1: Conflicts: This unit assesses candidates’ abilities to analyse the question; conduct arguments and justify opinions with appropriate knowledge and illustrations; synthesise and communicate ideas; make overall judgements and draw valid conclusions.

Unit 2: Space: This unit will assess candidates’ abilities to interpret statistical information or graph; to complete simple calculations to determine trends, make comparisons or otherwise assess the significance of the data; to analyse and comment on images; to evaluate sources and own knowledge to present arguments.

Assessment

Each unit will be assessed by examination.

Unit 1:

  • This is a written exam (1 hour 30mins) and is worth 50% of the AS Level Marks.
  • The exam paper consist of 5 questions each worth 30 marks.
  • Students need to answer 3 of the 5 questions. The total mark for the paper is 90.

Unit 2:

  • This is a written exam (1 hour 30mins) and is worth 50% of the AS Level Marks.
  • There are 3 questions which are split into a, b and c sections. Each question is worth 30 marks.
  • Students need to answer all questions.
