Bricklaying Level 3 Diploma at Truro and Penwith College
Students will grow in skill and confidence as they work independently and in small teams learning their strengths as they work. Where possible students will be given expereince of live building projects either through work expereince or visits to sites. It’s not all about practical skills, employers want smart and switched on people to help their business grow and you need to gain knowledge of how the construction industry operates in our well-equipped classrooms and computer suites.
The main areas covered are:
- Health, safety and welfare in construction
- Principles of organising, planning and pricing construction work
- Repair and maintain masonry structures
- Constructing radial and battered brickwork
- Carrying out decorative and reinforced brickwork
- Constructing fireplaces and chimneys
For those students who are not exempt there is a requirement to complete Functional Skills / GCSE qualifications in Maths and English alongside mainstream study.
There is a requirement for students to complete a level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying before progressing to this course. A successful interview with the course coordinator and a keen interest in the subject area are also requirements for entry.
This is a practical and theoretically based course using a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, lectures and presentations. You will work on your own, in pairs and small groups practicing skills and techniques within a realistic working environment. You will need to have some protective equipment, you will be advised on this at the start of the course.
Bricklaying practical coursework will be marked through set practical tasks. Theory coursework is assessed via internally-set test papers and on line exams.
Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to progress direct into employment or further study.
