Dance A Level at Buxton Community School

Course description

The EDEXCEL BTEC level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Performing Arts: Dance is a 60 credit qualification, which runs for 2 years and is the equivalent of one A Level.

The course will enable you to gain a qualification that develops the essential skills, knowledge and understanding of all the key concepts of dance. The course is predominantly practical based with a focus on performing and choreographing dance.

Course content

The qualification consists of 2 mandatory units:-

  • Performing to an audience 
  • Dance performance

And 4 additional units:-

  • Dance Appreciation
  • Choreographing Dance
  • Jazz
  • Developing Contemporary Dance Technique

Entry requirements

Entry into our 6th Form is based upon gaining a minimum of 5 A* - C at GCSE including at least a grade C in English and/or maths. BTEC courses will be taken into account in support of the 5 A*-C at GCSE. The minimum average points score for all subjects for entry into the 6th Form is 39.

Assessment

The course is assessed through coursework assignments developing practical and theoretical elements of dance. On completion of the course you may choose to progress into Higher Education or employment.
