Drama & Theatre at Tring School

Course description

The course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the theoretical side of theatre as well as design and performance. Students will explore play texts, theatre companies, theatre practitioners, understand how a play is realised in performance and create their own devised performances. 

Course content

Drama & Theatre helps develop personal skills such as team work, organisation, time management, public speaking, and creativity. All of these skills are desirable from employers and universities. The course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the theoretical side of theatre as well as performance. The course is designed to allow students to take responsibility and ownership of their own work which we encourage within the department.

Entry requirements

Grade 6 at GCSE Drama plus a Grade 5 in English Language

 

Assessment

Component 1 20% -  Practical & Written Coursework (Yr 12)
Component 2 - 40% - Performance Exam and Written Coursework (Yr13)
Component 3 - 40% Written Exam (End of YR13) 
 

Financial information

Across 2 years:

Essential books - £25. Can be purchased second hand from previous drama students.

Optional books - £35. Can be purchased second hand from previous drama students.

Essential theatre trips - £50

Optional treatre trips - various, depending on what is on. Approx. £25 per trip.

Optional Year 13 residential - £150

This course is highly regarded by universities and requires a high level of personal commitment; it can be extremely rewarding in terms of students' personal development, general knowledge and interpretative skills
